Civil War Days
June 12 & 13 2010

Billie Creek Village welcomes Civil War Re-Enactors from all
over the United States to
participate in the annual Civil War Days. Each year,
famous battles of the Civil War are fought throughout
the village and farm lands over the two day event. On
Sunday, June 14th, a public senatorial debate between
Abraham Lincoln and Steven A. Douglas will be recreated just
outside the Governor's house in Billie Creek Village.
The event will be complete with music from the Brazil (Indiana)
Cornet Band. In September of 1857, the
Brazil Cornet Band traveled to Charleston, Illinois to
perform at the Lincoln-Douglas on the 18th.
The band has held a concert season every year since but
changed its name to the Brazil Concert Band after the
addition of woodwinds around the turn of the last century.
The current band is made up of more than sixty musicians but
the 1857 debate incarnation will be back to the ten or
twelve members that was traditional for a cornet band.
The
public is invited to witness the battle action from specially
constructed battle side vantage points as well as visit the
various Civil War medical and civilian displays.
Unique goods and sundries are available from the Billie Creek
General Store, crafters and special Civil War sutlers in and
around the village
itself. There will be an authentic Civil War era dance at the
village on Saturday evening.
